Our Age UK Essex team is at full stretch and needs to ramp up immediate support to combat social isolation and loneliness, provide crucial help & reassurance as well as ensure basic shopping is available to the most vulnerable at this difficult time.
Donate now and change a life where you live.
Age UK Essex have launched this emergency fundraising appeal to make sure we can continue to reach people in the county who are facing extended periods of isolation because of the Coronavirus. As an independent charity, donations are relied upon to enable us to provide help to isolated elderly people and continue our essential work. The need is great and as we see a significant downturn in forecast income, donations are crucial for us to be able to manage this crisis during such a challenging time.
During this Coronavirus outbreak many older people will have no family living close by, limited or no access to online shopping and have underlying medical conditions that compound their isolation. We're working tirelessly to provide support to those most in need but we need help from the people of Essex to enable us to continue supporting some of the most vulnerable in our communities.
Our free Befriending service reaches the most vulnerable and helps alleviate social isolation and loneliness and is especially valuable at this difficult time. For many of those who use the Befriending service this will be the only contact they have with the outside world. In addition to befriending we are also providing wellbeing calls to many of our other vulnerable clients that use the charities services. £40 per month could pay for weekly befriending or wellbeing calls to isolated older people who have no one to turn to.
Information and Advice
Our free and confidential Information & Advice service provides a lifeline to vulnerable people, concerned relatives, family members and neighbours. Advisors can help people to confidently navigate some of the most difficult questions and situations that arise. They are experts in giving the support needed, as well as accessing services that can help with a variety of urgent needs such as shopping, prescriptions, food parcels, help at home and benefits.
One lady contacted Age UK Essex for urgent help to get her repeat prescription as she lives with epilepsy so is unable to drive or walk to the pharmacist. One of our advisors was able to provide an immediate response regarding the prescription delivery service for her specific area and just within a couple of hours she had been able to arrange delivery in a couple of days. ‘’I cannot thank you enough… many many thanks”.
“Age UK Essex have supported older people in Essex for over 70 years, now we need your help.” Says Gary Clinton, the head of the Information and Advice service. “We’re a local organisation that cares about local people and we are able to give more than just information, but offer a friendly voice, reassurance and crucial coordination to get people the help they need. Getting through troubled times is really difficult on your own: you don’t have to be on your own when we’re on the other end of the phone.”
The ask is simple – please donate whatever you can to make sure that older people in our communities are supported through these difficult times.
